Samsung Tab S9 Plus

I’m thinking of buying a Samsung Tab S9 Plus for Nomad Sculpt. As far as I have researched, it is a very good tablet and should run the Nomad without any problems. Should I take this tablet? I would be glad if those who have audits write. For example, whether there are errors or if they can be corrected.

Is there a reason you’re not choosing the iPad Air + Apple Pencil? It’s a lot cheaper.

Having an Android (s7) and a sponsored iPad Air (M2) 13" - important: the 13" screen is brighter!, more battery than 11":
For sculpting/drawing/painting: go for the Air - but:

  • “using” the M2 processor (high poly/many layers): screen will dim (hell why!!!) and air shuts down - happens twice the last days due to overheating… so: try to keep it cool - hopefully Apple can fix it…
  • the pencil pro… well: go for a skin, to make it more comfortable to hold long time (luckily there are tons of skins available; but: cost money…) - and: no buttons (hell no!!!). The double tab is a nightmare, and squeeze is not widely supported, yet !!! . Even the cheap old Wacom One Pen (supported on Samsung device: so mush better than this shitty s-pen) is far, very far better. And: only 20 EUR if sale… But do not shop the new one, mush worse on ergonomics, and Samsung blocks the second button…
  • iOS sucks… but well… that’s how it is… will never get used to it - and I have an iPhone from my company since 7 years… But maybe you like it…
  • Apple price policy… I can easily afford it, so I don’t care. If money is an issue for you: be warned… (sorry to tell).
  • screen: 60Hz, no OLED, but: I do not really care - other will. I like the Air 13" screen a lot, better than the s7 one, but the s9+ is 120Hz, OLED (s9+ is definitely better).
  • and: if you’re familiar with Linux (Android is Linux): no Linux, so no Blender, Krita, Linux apps for the Air… But be warned (if you go the Linux/Android route): you definitely need a big external screen, a 3 button mouse and keyboard. And performance sucks… but great script-abilities (so…if you know how to use a computer, it’s great - if not: sorry…). Android is for mobile devices, never forget this!

These are “my” major downsides of the air. On all other parts: the air is the clear winner (especially for drawing/sculpting) or at least equal - at least as good as Samsung (avoid cheap android devices!!! - just look for good Samsung deals! you can save a lot!!). Air is far better by performance (Ok… has a: deactivated core, limited voltages… who cares…these are notebook!!! ARM64), the screen ratio (3:2), Quadremesher in Nomad, mush better drawing/sculpting app support (jepp, there are great free Procreate clones, but these are not feature complete). On and on and on… for drawing/sculpting: go for Apple… really - I know the pencil wobbles… never have problems with this, as Apple covers this really great. … and 60Hz… not a problem as I do not game… having old eyes… (I’m 45…).
And: my Nomad-workflow drastically differs: on s7 I use my 8bitdo micro controller and switching actions/tools is faster/more convenient (Android does not support simultaneous finger/pen presses). On iOS: I use no external controller. iOS style (not the OS) I like more, but others will choose different. I guess, that really is user dependent.
If your focus is Drawing/Sculpting: definitely go for the Air - it is not perfect but far better suited on this field. If you want to choose an overall better averaged device (entertainment, gaming, etc.) go for the s9+ - but wait for good deals - to save even more money.
Money (yes it’s important for many): go for Android, but you have to be smart and take compromises… Apple knows this, they hate poor people - it’s an US-company.
Finally: if your are tired of this never ending iOS/Android war - can afford it: just wait for good deals - and shop both (like me  ). Nothing is perfect…

And if Apple figure out this overheating issue, Nomad implement squeeze support I will be satisfied.

Sorry, I do not think there will be a final answer. That’s my opinion, other will have different. But you will not get the perfect device.

Thank you very much for your long response. I read what you wrote thoroughly and decided to buy the Tab S9 Plus because I will use it for entertainment purposes as well. I don’t like the restrictions of iOS. As you said, the Air may be better for the Nomad, but I think a good Android tablet for general use would be better. Finally, I would like to ask you one more thing. I’ve never used Nomad Sculpt before and I want to find out. Are there any resources you can recommend in which way I can learn?
