More tools for the Windows Version?

I am absolutely excited about having a true version of Nomad on my laptop!! Wooohooo!!! I started a project on the android version and have been switching back and forth between that and Blender. I was able to import my latest project into the Windows beta version along with a lot of alphas so forth but, found that I couldn’t really import JSON files in. They show up in the folders in the program files and I know the icons exist for the default tools but, I don’t know how to get the default tools to work or activate? I know that the beta version is limited to 2 tools or from have seen? Am I doing something wrong or have they not been activated yet? I am actually afraid of this app getting released to the Microsoft Store because of the crazy price that might be applied to it. Has anybody seen how much they try to charge for Krita? ($500 US btw if you download it from there). Does anybody know if Stephane is going to add or unlock them soon? I really love this program but, am not able to complete my project yet with the Windows version. So far it seems to work fine in conjunction with my tablet (which is absolutely awesome!) I definitely have that carrot being dangled in front of me feeling. Thanks to anybody that may have a response beforehand!

They’re locked down, because it’s not a retail-ready version of the app, but once it’s ready, they’ll all be there.

Where did you see $500 ??? I just looked at the MS app store and Krita was shown as $14.99

Thank you! Good to know. I wasn’t sure if more developement was going to go into it and released to the public before it was released for retail. Is it only going to be accesable through Steam? I’m not even sure what fully functions in the beta as of now. I have been in the middle of a project and didn’t attempt to see what does and doesn’t work. It seems to however, work well with my Samsung S6 Lite and laptop. I am drooling over the available RAM and am looking forward to being able to use it for real! I love Nomad and am absolutely hooked on it and its ease of use. It is extremely powerful and very compatible with Krita and Blender. It makes certain things waaaay easier! I definitely will buy when and where it is available!

Depending on the version you download it is buried. It pops up after it is downloaded or something (I don’t remember tbh). I immediatedly uninstalled it when I saw that and just went to Krita’s website. There is actually complaint about that in the reviews. The only benefit of downloading it from the MS webstore would be that it auto- updates? The point it is..Krita is truly open source and they are funded by donations..there shouldn’t be a price on it at all and should be free. I actually looked up Blender there and found rather old versions instead of the most recent ones. I avoid downloading anything from the MS Store because (this is just my personal opinion) it is sketchy and feels as though it isn’t well maintained. Maybe I have a bad version of the MS Sore..LOL (I mean.. Store) on my laptop. Anyway..Welcome to the Nomad Sculpt Forum. It is nice to meet you!

According to the conversation over on the Discord, Stephane is thinking a price somewhere in the 30-40$ range, and he’s considering his options for distribution (Steam was mentioned). I think it’ll still be a few months before all of that is ironed out, but the intention is to have the same software running on PC, as we have on iPad/Android, but with all of the perks of dedicated PC-class hardware, like discreet graphics, support for mountains of RAM, and much faster CPUs. By that, I mean all brushes, and all features.

The iPad have some of the fastest cpu out there.

Sculpting is mostly cpu bound, so discrete graphics won’t be much useful, unless you max out the postprocess and lights rendering effects.
Integrated gpu have the advantage of having shared memory, which can benefit from faster cpu->gpu transfer.

I am absolutely, looking forward to it! It is truly well worth it! My next dilemma will be how to figure out how to make a purchase from Steam. I got a laptop several months ago. It is actually a refurb but, new to me. Everything with the exception of the CPU is fairly new with very little milage on them. It’s a 7480 i6300u 32gb RAM. I downloaded a couple games from Steam to see what it could handle and was surprised to discover that it could manage newer games that were created with Unreal Engine. I did notice however that some games performed significantly better when downloaded directly from their official websites (Undawn for example). My laptop doesn’t like it much when I have Steam running in the background. I have tried Nomad with emulators and Bluestacks is just WAAAY too heavy. They all are. I do however run Nomad via WSA on my laptop which does give me much higher RAM but, true to Android, the file handling is hellish to navigate and since March, WSA is no longer supported by MS. When trying out the beta version for Windows I was thrilled to try out the drag and drop feature for the very first time! Woohooo! Thank you very much for your response.

That is another aspect that I am exceptionally excited about! Naturally, my laptop has an iCPU so when I saw the statistics in the beta version of Nomad I almost couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It fluctuated between 20/22GB. I had imported an very high poly model in there to try it out. I am assuming that it is only that high because everything isn’t completely operational yet? Anymore, I use my S6 Lite almost exclusively for drawing on my laptop. I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful program. It very much has been like a gateway drug…LOL. It has proven to be a very powerful learning tool that has led me to try to learn Blender. Because of Nomad, people like me who always wanted to delve into 3D sculpting, but couldn’t due to lack of accessability have been given the chance to do so! You are a gentleman and a scholar that has given the world a wonderful gift.

Please please please don’t make it run exclusively through Steam :folded_hands:t4:
I’d rather buy it through the Microsoft store or Apple Store for my Mac.

From my understanding, Nomad Sculpt is based on OpenGL which I don’t think can take advantage of more advanced real-time GPU features like Ray Tracing that require a low-level API (Apples Metal API or Windows DirectX 12 API). Then again, this is sculpting app so it doesn’t need great real-time performance. But, it would be nice if there was Path Tracing option for still shots like other apps. The developers stated there is a beta version with Path Tracing but it’s too slow for the target hardware which is low-end tablets. I use the iPad Air M2 and when I want more accurate renders I use OctaneX (Path Tracing) or DGart which has a Ray Tracing feature for stills and animation.
