Forger (now with 3D modeling)

“With upcoming Forward Kinematic Nomad offers more than the other big sculpting apps. Doesn‘t it?
Keeping Single parts like legs single as long as possible together with instances allow you to sculpt on a posed character with symmetry.”

Man that shounds fantastic.
But where is this coming from? I don’t see this feature mentioned in the upcoming change log

@stephomi sir, do you have some poly-editing features (like above) in the roadmap?

We would all like these functions to be on the roadmap.

Check out Webdemo
Make an object, instance it, rotate it and sculpt on original object. Instanced is changed as well. In upcoming 1.66 you can build FK hierarchies by drag and drop one object onto another in scene menu.

Change Log is a bit outdated as it seems?

Thank you for the info! I’ll wait to really try this out when the official release is out.

I am almost getting teary eyed here.
Stephane, you are a hero!

Change log is way out of date - even though it is currently a massive long list.

Or maybe even split them up. Some people might want poly modeling and UV unwrapping, but not rigging.

Yeah, that’s what I meant, e.g…

rigging - £5/£10
poly model - £5/£10
UV Unwrap - £5/£10

Or what ever is an agreeable price, Stephane gets continued revenue and users can decide whether they want to pay extra for those features, if they don’t then they still have a kick ass sculpting app

it’s a win/win situation

Those who think a big team would create more tools&updates than Stéphane?
Does anyone of you uses Procreate? Autodesk? Adobe (which is rich enough to buy figma for 20!!! Billion!!!)
None of them are creating groundbreaking updates in Nomad speed!!

It must be very frustrating to be a developer.
You are creating more and more options and release every tiny fart as a new update and everyone is in awe, fantastic wonderful.

But you waste 50% of coding time to get the release out. So you decide to spend this in more complex tools and do a release only once a year, like anyone else…

The community’s reaction is ridiculous.
“Isn’t the app in development anymore?”
“Why does it takes so long?”

And then, a useless tiny little shitty app (compared with Nomad)releases some polygon functions, which isn’t good to use on top and everyone is doubting your very successful business concept.

Shame on you guys, shame on you!
Instead of being relaxed and trust in his mastermind who already released so much magic, he have to read this here… :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

About Subscriptions for single parts.
Won’t happen as I understood.
Keeping several versions alive, isn’t doable by one person anymore. All listed above would be professional options, which needs to pay extra people to run and steals min. 50% of Stephan’s time to delegate those extra people. Soon he will end up delegating only, without time to code by himself. A coder of his quality has his price.

Beside salary, guess how many coder can work as fast as Stephane in an environment Stephane built for Stephane?
Yes, zero.

Which is in numbers the salary of four to eight? people which have to be paid by these subscriptions.
But most of them are special add ons, only needed by few people.
Cozy Blanket seems to be not the financial success. And they are two persons only.
They are forced to think about paid upgrades on top of subscriptions….as I understood correctly on discord.
And this with a 9 times higher price tag as you said.

……

Or in short again.
Single versions and add on won’t happen.
At least that is what I understood and I can completely understand and support the reasons.

That was quite the rant Knacki, I hope my suggestion wasn’t the cause of your ire? I was just spit balling ideas for certain niche features to be treated as in-app-purchases to increase revenue for the additional development time involved

I personally am happy to patiently wait and see what happens almost all of my needs are fulfilled with 1.66 I’d rather have a jitter brush function than instancing but I’m sure Stephane will get around to it in good time.

“Good things come to he who waits” (not sure the source of the quote, may have been a Guinness beermat)

Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh. Maybe I was just over - empathetic?

But I just wonder if you guys think a person, who is intelligent enough to create this complex tool, hasn’t played trough all options already and already made his decision long time ago?

I have no idea what goes on inside the mind of a coder, he might not even see the code anymore, just blondes, brunettes and redheads :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Perfect mate, better wait and see what the future brings!!! Stephane is the guy and this software is the best already the way it is, Forger is crap compared to Nomad!!!

I’m a software developer by trade, and I understand the getting paid stuff. I work a full time job as well as build software on the side for fun.

I do think companies should be more creative when it comes to pricing models (to satisfy the customer’s needs and wants and to make sure they don’t go broke). I’ve used apps that make me want to throw money at them (though I never go for subscription software, mainly because it takes away my ability to own what I purchased, as does taxes….)

Since it’s tough to maintain two applications, I would pay the full cost of nomad as another one time fee for poly modeling, though I wouldn’t pay full cost for rigging, maybe $4.99. If each major new feature were 4.99, that’d be an attractive price. The idea here is that there may be other models that support both ends well. It’s really about know if your customers. The reason cost matters is because you can create barriers for some users if it is too high and thus shrinking your use base.

Yeah, we could use another application, but I’m sure the reson we like nomad so much is because it’s mobile and we like the convenience of working on the go on a mobile device.

I’d happily pay a subcription tier or join a patreon account just to show support.

Lol!

Hanging in app A’s forum chatting up app B about how it’s becoming more like app C.

I thought forger was bit of a dog when I first tried it. Always felt like a fight to get the desired results. For an app that is clearly in “catch up” mode, they got some nerve charging a subscription. I question their judgement for releasing it in the shape they did. If it’s not ready now, it was really not ready then.

Personally, I hope Nomad stays in it’s lane. A tight reliable modeler is hands down better than an “all in one” of varying quality. We’d be better if programs stopped trying to dominate all the disciplines, IMO.

As a clay modeler Nomad has met my needs in enough ways that I’m enjoying 3d again.

This is more about ipad os than it is about one app. I want a complete workflow from modeling to sculpting and uv mapping and rigging. Forger releasing a modeling option is one step closer to that.

I think having the option to switch from modeling to sculpting would be a hugeeeeee update for Nomad, we can create lowpoly modeling could be generated with basic tools such as.

extrude
inset faces

Hi, I kinda figured it out. Just convert your object to a “sculptable” mesh (in the object menu), then make it symmetrical in the symmetry menu. Then convert it back into a modeling object. It will adjust all changes symmetrically. Hopefully this can help. I also hate that we are having this conversation here. If there is a better place to find up to date info about forger please point us to it. It really is a powerful tool and i only found out about it from this thread.
