Ending up with millions of faces but still seems low detail

If I try to remesh lower I get this issue where I lose so much detail the shape goes to bits or holes start to appear.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Remesh at a closer resolution to the mesh and turn off multires.

It depends on the details that you’re trying to save that the remeshing lower is taking out. Are you watching the size of the grid as you change the remesh number? If the details are smaller than those squares, then it can’t keep those details.

You could be at the point of your sculpture where it could easier to use the smooth brush at 0, with the dynamic topology set to decimate, to lower the overall vertices count on areas that are less demanding of the detail. Without an image of the sculpture, that would be my best guess.


That’s a good idea, I hadn’t considered using the smooth at 0 to decimate targeted areas.
