Color Editing and Brushes

Description:
I would like to propose the addition of advanced color editing features and color adjustment brushes in Nomad Sculpt. The current method for creating texture variations requires manual repainting. These enhancements would streamline and accelerate the workflow significantly.

Proposed Features:

  1. Real-Time Color Adjustment Sliders:

    • Introduce sliders for adjusting brightness, saturation, and hue. These sliders would appear instantly upon object selection when color brush is selected, ( can be minimized) and allow for real-time adjustments, enabling rapid and precise color changes directly on the texture.
  2. Layer-Based Editing:

    • Enable color editing on individual layers or on the entire object, providing flexibility and improving texture adjustment efficiency.
  3. Color Match Feature:

    • Implement a color match tool that automatically adjusts the color palette ( histogram) of a texture to match a target object’s color palette , enhancing consistency and streamlining the matching process.
  4. Blend Modes:

    • Include various blend modes such as Add, Overlay, Hard Light, and Hue, to apply color changes. This feature will offer more creative control over how color adjustments interact with existing textures.
  5. Masking and Multi-Object Selection:

    • Support masking during color edits to target specific areas of the texture and enable color adjustments across multiple selected objects simultaneously. This integration will enhance workflow efficiency and allow for selective, multi-object color modifications.

Edit: when trimming or splitting, enabling a button would color the new surface with the values of the color sliders

  1. Color Adjustment Brushes:
    • Introduce brushes specifically for color adjustments. These brushes should support blend modes like Add, Overlay, Hard Light, and Hue, allowing dynamic and nuanced color changes directly on the texture.

I think these enhancements would greatly improve the flexibility, speed, and efficiency of color editing within Nomad Sculpt.

When you say « texture » I’ll assume you are talking about high-poly vertex painting.
Right now textures are pretty much read-only.

  1. I’ll probably do it. It should support multi selection.

  2. It already exists. For the paint tool, there’s a checkbox in paint menu (layer filtering)
And for the global paint all button, it’s the « layer icon » on the right of the button.
You need to be on a layer though (but you can now extract a layer from the base painting)

  3. I’ll pass for now, too much UX

  4. Yes it’s planned, thinking about adding them to layers.
But as a paint tool option as well.

  5. Multi object should be supported for « global operation ». As for masking it’s always supported by almost everything in Nomad.

  6. Maybe the blend option for the paint tool should do the trick

Pardon, yes I meant vertex colors

Thanks for considering my feature request.

If you implement the color adjustment sliders, could you handle the brightness adjustment as an exposure control instead? This is because with non-linear brightness adjustments, the hues and saturation remain unchanged, which can lead to the appearance of increased saturation when reducing brightness.
