Absolutely! I also think you can figure out the basic functions by just playing around in Nomad. You can sculpt on the default sphere, open an existing model and sculpt and move that around. Get familiar with the software.
There is no way you could do that in Uniform therefore the need for a tutorial how to make something step by step is absolutely necessary to know if this app is even useful to you. It could be amazing for all I know.
Stephomi went through great lenghts to make nomad visually understandable. recognizeable from other programs 3d and 2d and especially so its not too crowded. Uniform on the other hand…
It tried
they want it to be unique and peppered it with techlingo
maybe a programmer and node-noodler would go „wow its so obvious“ but
personally i feel like id have an easier time trying to learn geometrynodes
Thanks for linking to this video. After watching it there’s no way I’m touching this app unless someone makes a large series of really good, beginner friendly walk through videos. It’s annoying, because I want to support as many non-subscription softwares as possible, but I think the level of frustration I would have learning it is simply not worth it
I think it’s a mess and the company is lame. They are making software for themselves, from their Ivory tower with total disregard for potential users and are quite arrogant and greedy. I was on their Discord, made a question about the pricing and they kicked me out of it and blocked me on Twitter.
I met Dobarro at a Blender Conference, don’t get what they are about, well, it’s money, I can’t blame them for that but if you question them they just kick you out. Handling criticism in a positive and constructive way is vital for the success of a product or service, they just don’t care about people. I hope the worst for their little ugly app, I would never pay 60€ for that when I can have Nomad
Has potential if they can make it pleasant user experience. Horrible UI, ugly and no sense icons. I’ve seen something worse around there. I just cannot understand Why not hire an UI/UX specialist?
I took a look at the recent twitch stream and lightly read half of the introductory documentation. The dev introduces the thinking and functioning behind the app. Still gotta read through the rest. I think if you have a keyboard, it’s like a mix of Blender and Zbrush.
What I don’t like about Uniform is where each brushes/basic functions live in the ui, and using different data types. I get the thinking behind why he puts the brushes/gizmo/basic functions behind certain categories…. But things like not putting the brushes together under one category makes the workflow painfully slow. If anybody knows how to pull out just that one menu for brushes let me know.
I’m assuming this is where the keyboard and hotkeys/shortcuts will streamline the sculpting process. As for the concept of polymesh and geomesh…… I think it will confuse most users. Not only that, but it seems like you have to dictate the detail size and hit “rebuild” in order to do anything to the polymesh.
I think it’d be better to introduce different objects, and if users want to texture the object, then add uvs for painting. But maybe I’m just old.
What I think there is potential for is the overrides and modules you can customize. It seems to offer a wide range of things you can do to manipulate the functions. What I still don’t know how to do is save that custom and re-access quickly for different brushes.
I still prefer Nomadsculpt. Streamlined. I don’t need to read documentation to get into it since I’m not a beginner. I only need to look up a couple of things if I want to do something. Uniform, I have to look up things otherwise I can’t even get it to work. What the dev for Uniform is introducing is very different.
