Split/cut tool using plane? Help!

Hello!

I am in need of a bit of help. I do moulds as a living and I recently started sculpting in 3D, so I am making 3D moulds and also other sculpts in 3D.

I try to explain what I am trying to do: I would like to cut or split a shape in half, but not like perfectly in the middle. I need to follow a cross section following a specific seamline. I will attach some pictures of a burnt hand I am sculpting.
With normal shapes that can be split in the middle, it’s a no brainer. I just use the split tool and that’s it. However now I am completely lost.

The plane I am using in the picture shows where I’d like the shape to be split in 2 parts. Is there any way I can use the plane as some kind of “scissors” to cut the hand in that specific way? Is there any specific tool designed to do what I am attempting that I just don’t know about? Thank you a million!!!

  • Duplicate the hand x2 so you have 3 (always keep an original so you don’t lose work)

  • Mask the whole plane

  • Duplicate the plane

  • Plane 1: Positive extract enough to cover the hand
    — Boolean the hand out of the plane

  • Plane 2: Negative extract enough to cover the hand
    — Boolean the hand out of the plane

You should have two halves with negatives of the hand.
