Hello
I’m trying to figure out how to just carve out a gap or hole out of a cylinder for example. I just wanna carve out one side and keep the other side filled like a cup but I also wanna be able to adjust the height or depth of the carving. It keeps carving out both sides though and I’m not sure what settings I need to adjust to prevent that. Also is there a tutorial on using mask and any tips tricks with using it or just sculpting in general to make openings, gaps, holes for objects as well as making depth in a mouth or nostril opening ect without stretched geometry?
You can always try using the Boolean feature to subtract the depth you want from the cylinder with a smaller diameter cylinder set at the depth you want, you can also use the subtract setting when using one of the brushes and remesh it as you go to keep it clean, you can also mask the area and click sharpen on the mask if you want it cleaner then you want and invert it and use the gizmo to push/pull to the depth you want, I hope these can help you there’s lots of ways to accomplish this I think I hope one of these options gives you the results your looking for
For a mask you probably just want to sculpt the shape from any primitive, then mask the face portion; then in mask settings adjust height to negative value then extract a shell. That will give you a thin mask with a “hollow” back surface. Search extract shell on YouTube something will probably come up
Thanks for the reply’s and advice, really appreciate it! I will try those techniques. What I actually did was just masked one side and unmask whatever bled through to the other side using unpaint mask and then I carved the masked side out using the height depth option, I believe that’s what it was and it worked pretty well for what I needed.
