Understand its a one man project, but with the declining popularity of MS Windows requesting a Linux version of Nomad Sculpt to be made. Currently using Windows version of Nomad Sculpt but plan to migrate to Linux and want to avoid using a compatibility layer to run it.
I can second this, because windows is declining and half the user base is set to go to Linux while others will exodus to mac, it means that more companies will have to consider Linux compatibility to even get access to the other half of the user base. This is already a thing in Europe and it is also happening in the US.
I just wanted to say ditto. I’ve been keeping an eye on Nomad for a while but I’ve completely moved away from Windows, so a Linux version would be most welcome - especially if released as a Flatpak!
I’m testing the windows version on Linux under Wine, through Lutris launcher. It works really well, it doesn’t suffer from the same issues with the pen tablet input pressure which ZBrush and other software have when runing within WINE. It’s got a small issue when using a dual monitor setup though, where the input is basically halvened across the width of the screen, but disabling the second monitor just takes care of the issue.
I’m definitely pondering ditching ZBrush for my home projects in favor of Nomad already, with this solution… Just make it native Linux and I’ll go everywhere on the web and IRL advertising it like crazy!
Seriously, native Linux port please.
flatpak run –branch=stable --arch=x86_64 –command=nomad –file-forwarding=com.nomad.sculpt
Look how sexy the launch command is!! ![]()
Yes, a Linux version would be fantastic. I just transitioned from Windows to CachyOS, and I’m really happy with it. I’d buy Nomad quick if it was available for Linux. ![]()
Yes, Flatpak would be great. ![]()
Yes pls, Linux. I tried all the sculpting programs and like ZBrush best, but I love my Ubuntu as well. Having a more user friendlyand better ZBrush on my favourite OS would be fantastic.
I would also love to see a linux version of Nomad.
Has anyone on linux tried the webdemo? If it supports wacom, you can use a desktop key to unlock save in it as of last week:
I tried and my wacom tablet works there.
But unfortunately, this seems to be the only way to get my tablet working. I’ve tried several other Wine and Proton versions, but none of them managed to get pressure sensitivity working. I asked the support about a native linux version, and they said its currently not in their plan. I hope it might change in the future. I really could use a native linux version.
I have just been thinking about this. I sent a message to Nomad via Instagram. Have not had a response but maybe thats not how they communicate.
Did you try to toggle the wintab option in the nomad menu? (Top left icon?)
Yes, but unfortunately I still didn’t have pressure sensitivity after that either — I tried both Steam Proton Experimental and Proton 10
I was ok with putting up with some of the annoying things windows did but then they started shoving A.I and Copilot down our necks, found out they were invloved with Chat GPT A.I slop bros and I lost it. Its only Zbrush that single handedly keeps there and trying to find a suitable distro for my needs.
How did you get Zbrush Running in Wine? I tried and failed miserably, tralled the internet for weeks and found sod all. I would find these little snippet of information and get excited only to find it was very old information or it was a version of Wine that no longer exists. I was using PopOS at the time, I am looking at Ubuntu next. What Linux distro do you use?
The problem I kept having was not the pen pressure wierdly enough which I thought I would have. It was the display, it was all broken up into little lines. Very thin lines like a basket weave, so the model was broken up into seperated lines all down the screen rendering it unusable. I will try and find the picture I took.
Hey, I’m just curious, Should I keep my hopes up for a native linux support or nah?
