How do I stop voxel merge from flipping my project?

I’m trying to create an action figure and I need to make a long hole throughout the middle of the torso but whenever I try to create the hole, it flips the project, re-meshes it (so it’s really pixelated), and cuts the wrong part, or it completely distorts the whole thing making it unrecognizable! How do I fix this??

An update about my issue, all my progress has been deleted and I am now left with a blank canvas.

Did you try to re-open the project?

To me it simply looks like you are on the project startup.
