Can’t activate paint for brush? Help

This is confusing me and I didn‘t find a solution in manual.
Sometimes, I can activate painting for a brush, let‘s say clay brush. Later, this function is greyed out. Clay brush is painting till,… I don‘t know how to change this.
Any help or explanation is very much appreciated.

I don’t understand your issue.

You are probably trying to paint with a tool that doesn’t support painting, like the gizmo?

Yeah, I haven’t been able to effectively repro, so i never bothered reporting.

@knacki , something that might help you is if you enable it through the shortcut pop-up menu…it seems to have worked for me

choosing left material ball and Check uncheck top enable box several times seems to do the trick.
