Hi everyone. I’m using a Xiaomi Pad 8 with the official Focus Pen Pro and Nomad Sculpt 2.8 on Android. The pressure sensitivity doesn’t work at all — the brush only responds at full intensity, no matter how light or hard I press. I’ve tried everything: reinstalled the app, restarted the tablet, re-paired the pen, changed every gesture setting. There’s no “Allow unrecognized pressure” option on Android, and the “Use Windows Ink” option doesn’t exist either. The pen works perfectly in other drawing apps. This is really frustrating because I invested a lot in this hardware specifically for sculpting. Is there any fix or workaround for Xiaomi pens? If not, please consider adding official support in a future update. Thanks!"

As for the logs, I don’t see any bugs with Nomad, the returns pressure is simply super small, always the same tiny values (1/16384, I can’t do anything with that).
The pen works perfectly in other drawing apps.
Can you tell me a list of apps that support this?
And did you download them through the Google play store?
Ah and also, does pressure work in nomad - WebAssembly?
Ideally test chrome on your tablet, if pressure works that would be a big hint.
Thanks for the quick reply! I already tested the pen in Clip Studio Paint and IbisPaint, and pressure sensitivity works perfectly in both — they were downloaded from the Google Play Store.
I also tested the Nomad demo version on the website (Chrome on the same tablet), and the same issue happened: no pressure sensitivity at all, just full intensity.
So it seems like the problem happens on both the Android app and the web version, even though other apps work fine. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks again for the help!
One more thing: since the pen sends pressure values, but they’re extremely low (around 1/16384), would it be possible to add an optional setting like a ‘pressure sensitivity multiplier’ or ‘low-sensitivity pen mode’ in the app?
That way, the app could multiply the incoming pressure value by a custom factor (like 10x or 20x) to make it usable for pens that report very low pressure, like the Xiaomi Focus Pen Pro. It would be a simple workaround that doesn’t require changing the whole driver, and it would make the app compatible with a lot of new Android pens without waiting for system updates.
Other apps like IbisPaint and CSP already handle this well, so maybe they’re applying some kind of curve or multiplier internally. Just a thought! Thanks again for looking into this.
1/16384 is a constant, the pressure is never there, no variation.
Pressure not working on web already means Xiaomi or HyperOS is doing something fishy because pressure management is handled completely different (different API, etc).
That’s just 2 apps, maybe they use some sdk, or worse, Xiaomi might need some kind of App registration thing.
In any case I won’t bother with practice like that.

I’m investigating but if it’s just Xiaomi/HyperOS being crap, I won’t bother much.
Android supports pencil well and pressure and every other pencil works correctly.
Can you test Krita Android and tell me if pressure works there please?
Hey! Thanks for the quick reply. I just tested Krita on the same tablet, and the pressure sensitivity worked perfectly — no lag, no failed strokes, everything normal. So it’s not a hardware issue or a system-wide problem.
That makes me think maybe it’s something about how Nomad reads the pressure data compared to Krita, IbisPaint, and CSP. Could it be that those apps are using a different API or handling the input in a way that works better with Xiaomi’s implementation?

Please read what I say… I said that maybe it was an app whitelisting thing.
For starter you have no pressure on the browse that’s a huge red flag, it should work.
Is this working? Pointer events tester | dt.in.th.
And double check your hyperOS settings, either in Nomad setting or pencil to see if there are related pencil settings.
That being said, you are on Nomad 2.8 which is multiple months old so I’m going to add you to an internal test to see if latest Nomad changes something, and I don’t think so but who knows.
I’ll add also some logs, the version should be 2.9.23.
I’ll send you a link on your email (I don’t see any purchase done on Google Play with your email provided by the forum though).
I tested the site you sent, and the pressure shows as 0 the whole time, even when I vary the force. The tilt and other data change, but pressure stays locked at 0.
I get what you said about the whitelist — it makes sense, they probably use some specific SDK or are on Xiaomi’s approved app list.
About the email: the Nomad purchase was made with mumullan80@gmail.com. Can you check if it shows up there?
If there’s a way to add me to the internal test for version 2.9.23, I’d love to test it and send you the logs. Just send me the link and I’ll install it to see if anything changes.

I tested the 2.9.23 version and it’s exactly the same as the official 2.8: No pressure sensitivity at all.
Also, I tried to copy the logs again, but the app crashes every time I tap the copy button. Just a heads up in case that helps. Thanks for the test build anyway.
And if you don’t copy and simply “clear” then make a very quick pencil stroke and look at past:
- touch pressure
- dispatch pressure
- copy pressure
I suspect it’s going to be 0.
I can’t replicate the crash (maybe because too much logs? clear to reduce the load).
I tried to do it the way you suggested, clear the logs, make a quick stroke, and check the values, but the app kept crashing before I could get a clean reading. Still, from what I could see before it closed, everything was 0: touch pressure, dispatch pressure, copy pressure, all of them.
I tested it a few times and it never changed from 0, even on the quick strokes. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to try.

So after all the tests, logs, prints, beta version, and hours of my time, the response is just a thumbs up? That’s it?
You’re seriously not going to put a warning anywhere that this app doesn’t work with Xiaomi pens? People are spending money on this, and the only way to find out is to waste hours like I did.
I’m not asking for a miracle. I’m asking for transparency. Add a note to the Play Store, or at least the forum, saying which pens are supported and which aren’t. That’s the bare minimum!
Some xiaomi tablets definitely works, actually every pen should work.
I do handle pressure correctly from Android… why should I be blamed and not Xiaomi.
I don’t have any lists of things that don’t work.
It could even be fixed or broken by driver update independently from Nomad.
As for note: this thread now exists. If you look at xiaomi pad 8 and Nomad that’s the first thing that will come up. I am trying hard to look at any information or if there is any workaround but nothing comes up on Google.
Note: i could replicate and fix the crash on log copy. But the cause was: huge log (hundreds of MBs). In theory clear or just doing a solo stroke after opening should have worked.
Also in Gesture you might want to disable “Use extra input samples” (apparently Xiaomi has some troubles with it, Dev Update: Week 2 and 3 of 2026 | Drawpile)
(Not sure but maybe it could be the “game turbo” thing)
Open the Xiaomi Security app (pre-installed on the tablet).
2. Open Game Turbo.
3. If your app is in the list, remove it.
(Alternatively: Game Turbo Settings → Performance Mode → disable “Optimized gesture and sensitivity”)
