What on earth do i do about this trimming accident

To preface i dont really know what i am doing, i am new to sculpting. this happened much earlier on in the project and i didnt notice it when it happened, my history didnt have the cut in it anymore so i merged it and was going to start sculpting… and now its come back to bite me. I dont even know what it is or what to call it ? Smoothing, layering, close holes etc does not fix it, when i look at it in wireframe it is very dense around it. would appreciate some advice, id rather not start from scratch again, even if it means reverting back to older saves (if that is possible).

Did you “merge” layer(s) on a model/sculpt or “join” models/sculpts? Joining can typically be fixed by separating topology. Maybe, im not understanding what happened lol.

Also, it’s really beneficial to add more redo/undo in your history so might can do that for future accidents. I’m not sure if it’s a feature.

joining the pieces will maintain separate shells of geometry, so when you smooth over it wou will see where the split was. Instead of merging, try selecting the individual pieces and do a voxel remesh instead. This will generate a new single mesh for you to work on

Hard to see what’s going on. If it’s from a relatively fresh trim operation, what works is you trim again, trying to repeat what you did but this time a little larger and with no hole filling (option “none” in trim menu). After that, the close holes function should work
