Tools not loading from custom main folder

On Android, I switched my main folder to one in the internal storage Documents folder and this works fine for projects. I just copied my tool .json files over from the old Android data folder but the tools don’t appear in Nomad even after closing the app and restarting Android.

I just tried another experiment to use the file import feature to load the .json file but that gives me a permission error. Apparently it’s trying to save the imported tool to the old default Android data folder instead of my new custom main folder.

Apologies for spamming my own post but I have more information. It appears to have something to do with the icon data. If I delete the icon node it works to import the file. My guess is that it tries to build an icon from the data and then save it in the old default folder and gets a permission fail.

Don’t waste your time with custom folder, it doesn’t work reliably on Android, and I’m not even sure it’s my fault.

That being said, what makes you think it tries to save to the default folder, did the path displayed on the error says so?
You’ll normally never get error writing on default folder, only custom folder causes permission on Android.

Yes, that was the confusing part the write permission error was for the default folder which didn’t make sense. Android sucks :frowning:

The good news is that saving projects there has been great and I can sync it to my Google drive account so my phone and tablet are always in sync.

The icon workaround seems to work though. If I delete the icon node in the json, import the tool and then just edit the tool and choose the icon graphic it works fine.

I might have found way to make custom folder works, but it’s a pain so no guarantee.

I know Android represents a small percentage of your sales but I really appreciate that you still support it as much as you do. I have so much time and money invested in that ecosystem with 3D scanning and metrology tools that to have to switch to IOS would be a disaster for me. Nomad is the core of my scan cleanup and sculpting pipeline and I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without it. It’s without a doubt my most favorite software ever. Thank you for making this amazing tool!
