While painting on this, I realized that a bunch of what I was doing would be solved with an AO pass. Is that likely to happen?
Yes postprocess are planned.
Ambient Occusion will be supported by SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) first though, so quality won’t be as good as baked AO.
That being said since you got a metallic ring, you’ll most likely benefit from SSR (Screen Space Reflection) rather than AO.
SSR can be useful for small metallic cavities, it can remove so “light leaking” issue.
Also looking forward to AO. Filters on/off such as on Mudbox would be awesome.
