Cut and Key option for Split Tool

When preparing models for 3D printing, it’s quite important to cut parts and add keys so they can be printed separately, to later be assembled and painted. Making cuts and keys in Nomad is possible, but it’s currently time consuming and not very intuitive.

A great example is in Bambu Studio (screenshot attached for reference): it offers a useful planar cut with connectors (adjustable depth and tolerance), but it is limited to straight planar cuts only. It solves a lot of problems and it generally helps to cut some models with cuts and keys, but many situations require cuts that follow the shape of the model like separating an arm from a torso while preserving the sleeve overlap and body contour.

So what I would propose is that this could be an option under the Split Tool. This would for instance open a small panel with options similar to what Bambu Studio has, automatically generating connectors/keys along the cut, with customizable parameters (tolerance, depth, size, shape).

This IMHO would greatly improve workflow for sculptors creating characters, miniatures etc.

Thanks for this fantastic piece of software

OMG this would be a game changer!!! Love the idea!

cutting and optimizeing for printing is just sculpting your model in a different way witch keep printing in mind when designing a model, but i get whare you comming from and even tho it would be more easy to have this in nomad i get why this isnt in the program because it is not a 100% focus on printing.

i can see why you would like cutting with a key or a dowel, but is not that mutch work to do this by hand in nomad it self + no other program that i know of (exept for blender the jack of all trades master of none and even then its a payed addon) has this feature optimized other then a printing slizer.
i for one would rather see meshurments addid to cut/split and gizmo but again that is mostly a feature that is normalized in programs like fusion and plasticity but in a sculpting tool that would be also handy because you can work more acurate and faster then eyeballing makeing slots/inserts/key and what not.
or half of what you sayed selective trimming whare you can place a cutline and then deselect the parts that you dont want cut even when they are in the cut line.
again i get what you would like but you and me and maby 15% of the other users convert sculpt to print so adding features to nomad to help optimaze for printing is a tall asking order :stuck_out_tongue:
(mutch rather see the pc version of released  )

Disagree completely. It is a lot of work in Nomad to do that and the fact that no other program has it should by no means be a ruler for what features to implement. User needs are the ruler, and completely understandable if this isn’t a big user need, but I have a feeling that there are a LOT of users making sculpts for printing later and having to jump to another program (like Blender or ZBrush) to make that happen in a more intuitive way.

i also would love this… takes forever to make simple connections in nomad..
