Ability to add additional custom primitive shapes. Currently, you can somewhat get this functionality by “add to scene” and selecting another Nomad project with the shape you want in it. But it would be nice if I could add some commonly used custom shapes and primitives into the primitives panel, it would speed things up and make it a bit more efficient.
. And it would mean less hunting through my long list of Nomad projects in order to find those “custom primitives”.
. With the ability to add custom primitive shapes, I could simply select “Add” in the layers panel (scene menu), select my custom primitive from the primitives panel in the “Add” pop up menu, and it would add it into my scene, I could scale it, etc.
@stephomi I’ve been thinking about ways this could be made to be possibly simpler to implement. If making your own models into primitives would be too difficult to implement into the app, maybe add a separate panel within that same “Add” panel in the Scene Overview (layer) panel, right below the primitives category labeled “Assets” or “Objects” or something like that. It could source the 3D objects for that panel from a folder within the app folder, kind of like the Projects folder, but a separate one that users could place models into that they want quick access to in the app. I don’t know if you’re familiar with this or not, but similar to Affinity’s Asset Library feature. Maybe there could even be an option somewhere to pin the currently selected object in Nomad into this folder/panel in the UI. This would be so incredibly handy. I don’t know how difficult it would be to implement, but from my limited knowledge dabbling with some coding, It doesn’t seem like it would be very difficult to implement. But maybe it is. Would you consider adding a feature like this?
You can create folders within the projects folder, or simply save your primitive file with “FOLDERNAME/“ before the filename
Thanks, I didn’t know about creating folders within the project folder, that sounds like it could be helpful. ![]()
I don’t think Stephan likes adding custom objects to the ADD primitive menu.
Since the nom files also have a preview thumbnail in the files on iOS, I use drag & drop for my own primitives such as gemstones / a posable hand / hair, etc.
I use slide over and simply drop the objects into the scene.
It is faster than the ADD button ![]()
Oh, that’s a good idea, I didn’t think about using system drag and drop for that.
. That could work well, thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have to try that out! ![]()
