I bought a new iPad Pro M4 with 16 GB RAM in September for the sole purpose of getting the most out of Nomad. Voxel Merge made the app crash a little too easily on the type of models I make with my previous M2 8GB iPad.
After getting the new iPad I rarely had any crashes. Until the recent month. Now it feels like Voxel Merge has started crashing more frequently again. New in the latest update is that it has started to get stuck at 13-14% and doesn’t move from there. Previously it used to just keep going and possibly crash somewhere closer to 80-90%. While a few months it crashed very rarely
There might be a possible reasonable explanation to this?
What does the input meshes look like (polycount, etc).
And what resolution are you using?
Hi Stéphane,
I’ve had this project for a couple of weeks and that’s why I reacted to the difference. Ihaven’t had any issues with crashes since I hot my new iPad M4 16 GB until the last couple of months.
I’ve never really understood the relation between the resolution number and the volume size of the object. Smaller objects clearly needs less resolution to end up with the same wireframe density and bigger ones higher resolution. And I’ve noticed that the resolution number that Nomad can work with seems to have gotten higher over the years, so I’ve lost my frame of reference for it.
I was trying to merge a pretty hi-res head with eyes and a shoulder for 3D printing it. The head is 10M polygons and had been merged in 2 parts to that resolution maybe 10 days ago, and now I wanted to merge that with some eyes at 484K and low-res shoulders at 399K. This is when it kept getting stuck in 13-14%. To keep the same resolution (visually comparing it to the wireframe when sliding the resolution slider) I started at 2200 and then gradually took in down untilI reached 1500 and then it worked. But the fact it started getting stuck is new to me.
In the end I think I erased everything in that project that didn’t need merging. Restarted Nomad and merged them in steps using Boolean. And in the end I got it to work.
Maybe it’s just me doing something wrong? But it felt as if something in the app had changed since I didn’t used to have any crashes workingwith this iPad.
If you could shine any light on it I would be delighted😁
