The shortcut key I assigned to the pen isn't working properly for Translation

THE PLATFORM: Windows
NOMAD APP VERSION: 2.9.8

I use a pen display, and I was experiencing an issue where Nomad would stop responding whenever I touched another window directly with the cursor, so I followed these instructions ( Pc version pen not doing intended ) to disable WinTab in Nomad.
This problem has been solved. Maybe.

Since the tablet wouldn’t detect pen pressure in that state, I turned on Windows Ink on the tablet itself.
However, this caused the shortcut key for “Translation”—which I had assigned to the pen’s side button—to stop working properly and instead trigger zoom functions.
Turning off Windows Ink or turning on WinTab resolves this issue.
I’d like to know if there’s a solution.

Rebind the hotkey in Nomad then?

Changing to a different key didn’t make any difference.
Incidentally, even after giving up on assigning the key to the pen and assigning it to a button on the pen tablet itself, I got the same result.

When I press the button, the highlight in the key settings section of Nomad works properly, so it seems the button input itself is being recognized.

I’m confused, both the buttons on pen and tablet work (in that you can bind them)?
But if you “hold” them, does the binding get highlighted continuously?

Assignment is possible.
The specific steps are as follows:

  1. Configure any Windows key or mouse button in Nomad.
  2. In the settings for your pen tablet, assign the same Windows key to the button on the pen or tablet itself that you want to map.
  3. Pressing the button on the pen or tablet will trigger the corresponding function in Nomad (assuming there are no issues).
    That’s how it works.

Also, in my previous reply, I mentioned that changing the key assignments yielded the same result, but perhaps the keys I used for testing were incompatible—it worked when I assigned them to simple letters. My apologies.
However, it doesn’t seem to behave correctly with the mouse middle click or the Alt key, which I originally intended to use for translation.

Even while holding down a button, the indicator on the bindings screen lights up briefly and then turns off.
Since this behavior occurred even with functions that were working correctly, I didn’t pay much attention to it.
When using the mouse or keyboard directly, the light stays on continuously.

Furthermore, regarding the note I added as an aside—“I think I’ve resolved the issue where Nomad stops responding when I directly touch another window with the cursor”—it turns out that it hasn’t been resolved.
I’m not sure if it’s the pen tablet or if there’s a compatibility issue with WinTab (or Windows Ink)…
The pen tablet I’m using is the Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K)

You mean you focus another window and then you cannot refocus on Nomad? (Or inputs do nothing then?)

Maybe these buttons cannot be held down? Reddit - The heart of the internet
Note that translation and zooming shortcut have secondary behavior (when you start translate and lift the hotkey it toggles to zooming, and vice versa for zooming).

(customization shown on the screenshot is for next update)

I see—it seems the issue is with the pen tablet after all!
Since the camera rotation function, which I had assigned to the pen button to mimic a right-click, worked fine, I got a bit confused.
It’s probably just an incompatibility issue with modifier keys or mouse buttons.
Thank you for checking this out.

This is a bit hard to explain…
When I’m working in Nomad and click on another window with the mouse or pen (i.e., the cursor),
when I return to Nomad, the window itself comes back to Nomad just fine.
However, for about 30 seconds to 2 minutes, it stops responding to input slightly.
I can’t switch brushes or press the hotbar buttons.
But I can still rotate the camera.
Then, after a while, it seems to “remember” the actions that were paused and frantically catches up at high speed (for example, if you were switching brushes multiple times, it’ll do that), and then it returns to normal.
I think turning off WinTab or Windows Ink might help… but not being able to use pressure sensitivity is a bit of a bummer…
I’m not quite sure if this is caused by Kamvas or by WinTab (or Windows Ink).

Also, this issue might only occur when I switch windows by directly clicking on them with the cursor; I don’t think it happens when I switch carefully using Alt+Tab or similar shortcuts.

Here’s an additional note.

Control Nomad with the pen → Switch to another window with the mouse → Click Nomad with the mouse → No symptoms

Control Nomad with the mouse → Switch to another window with the mouse → Click Nomad with the mouse → No symptoms

Control Nomad with a pen → Switch to another window with the pen → Click Nomad with the pen → Issue occurs

Control Nomad with a mouse → Switch to another window with the pen → Click Nomad with the pen → Issue occurs

Control Nomad with a mouse → Switch to another window with the pen → Click Nomad with the mouse → Issue occurs

It seems like the issue is related to the combination of switching windows and whether the pen is in use.
When the issue occurs, pressing Alt+Tab seems to fix it.

Thanks for the detailed answer.

Note that if you turn off wintab in Nomad you need to turn on windows ink in your tablet settings (not sure if it’s named like that).

I’ll probably not try to fix anything at this point because each time I try to fix something I cannot replicate I take the risk of making the situation worse.
Maybe one day I’ll take one of these kamvas tablet to fix it for real.

I’ll double check if I can replicate some issues on my wacom tablet though..

Thank you for your long reply!
I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that this issue gets resolved someday—Nomad is such a fun program.
I’m rooting for your development!
