The parts would need to be Booleaned or Vexeled together. The overlapping of the two objects can cause issues in the slicer and then the print has issues. However, yes, you can Boolean two objects with vastly different poly counts and it will print fine.
This would be simpler than trying to decimate everything at once. Decimate each object to a level where it still holds the details you need, then boolean them together.
Ok, just so I understand.
The slicer does not like geometry of another object within a mesh ?
So mesh 1 with inside overlapping geometry would cause problems.
Mesh 2 with exactly touching geometry would work - without boolean / voxel remesh ?
Would Mesh 2 still be firmly connected after printing - if the parts are 100% in contact?
I only ask because I often see 3D prints that are printed in one piece with moving parts.
So I think that not all parts have to be connected with boolean or voxel remesh.

Actually, I didn’t know that you could boolean objects with different poly counts together without changing the overall poly count of the resulting 1 object. I just tried it out, and the result had a lower file size just by doing this operation! It wasn’t much (5 MB out of a 89 MB file), but it is definitely a thing worth playing about with the controls for maybe bigger savings. Thank you very much!!

@RogerRoger And many thanks for the tip with the decimation. I have always worked from the other end - increasing the poly count in the areas I wanted to have more details with the clay tool turned to 1.

This puzzles me, too. How do you get to print a moving part within another part without them touching each other or without having to remove countless small supports from the inside part?
Exactly, geometry inside doesn’t like to slicers, some can handle it others show warnings and invite you to fix it. I prefer use Blender with 3D print addon that help to understand the problem and fix it.

@Holger_Schoenischka @RCStudio When objects that are printed as “one” piece but have rotating parts, they are designed with gaps and so that as the part is printed, no supports are needed. It can be be a little tricky but once you get the hang of it, not a big deal. Look up “print in place 3D models” and you can find YouTube videos and a lot of models for download.

Hej everybody! Thanks to your help and your tips, I was able to reduce the size of this model from 176 MB to 72 MB without any serious loss of detail. The print will have a height of 23 cm overall (with legs …
), so I needed to keep the skin texture and the details of the ornaments. For smaller prints of this model there sure is a possibility of reducing the size even more.

@Josepmy Thank you very much! Meanwhile I have
- made a boolean merge of all the single parts the model consisted of in Nomad, keeping the different poly counts of the parts
- closed holes and repaired the manifold in Nomad
- made another repair run in Photon Workshop (just to be on the safe side)
- hollowed and supported the repaired model in Lychee
- sliced the model in Lychee
Next step is to have it printed, which will take over 6 hrs and use up 350 ml of resin. I will keep you posted about the print result.

In fact, printing time is nearly 10 hrs. My printer and my slicer are unfortunately not often in line …

Unfortunately I am very confused about the voxel remesh / boolean of the meshes. I asked another user who also creates 3D prints and she answered this in the picture. She only connects the objects with join - all objects not only the flexible ones. What’s right now?
