- My problem is that after masking a figure, I print the mask with a 3D printer, but the mask does not fit the figure perfectly, it is a little small and the mask breaks. I can solve this problem by leaving some space around the edges without changing the proportion. How can i solve this?
2 of the largest factors in play:
- Gap Between Parts
- If you don’t leave a gap between the parts, they won’t fit together. The tolerances on a printer will inevitably take more room than the part design itself. Generally, a gap of 0.2-0.3mm (depending on your printer) will give you a snug fit. You’ll have to test your printer to find your sweet spot
- Line of Draw
- Because 3D prints are [usually] rigid, you have to watch your Line of Draw. If you have undercuts or a bad Path of Insertion, there’s no way you’re getting your part to fit.
