How do I preserve the shape of a trimmed object when remeshing?

I have tried quad remesher, voxel, dynotopo. I can’t figure it out. I don’t know if I have a setting that needs to be changed or what.

Notice the horrible topology on the top, any time I try to remesh, I either lose the shape or it rips holes in the model.

The image with the visual hole was just using the smooth tool.

Best to not rely on trim “fill”, instead use “boolean”

I didn’t even realize it was set to fill when I trimmed it. Thanks for pointing that out. I will try to be more aware in the future.

I did manage to get it fixed. Just kept changing settings and running voxel remesh until it finally corrected.

Yeah I won’t do that again because that was a pain trying to figure it out.
