Hi All,
Just joined and wondered if the tablet in the title would be any good for running Nomad.
I’m 63 so think these days the learning curve is going to be steep and therefore don’t really want to spend too much on an expensive tablet in case I decide it’s not for me.
I have looked at used iPads but am not sure which Gen is suitable without going to far back.
I am sure there must be a catch somewhere but tech is slowly but surely leaving me behind. Guess that’s Karma getting it’s own back for me getting annoyed at my parents not being able to program the old VHS machines when they came out way back in the 1980s lol
Kind regards to you all, Mark
Anyway any thoughts will be welcome
As far as iPads go, my recent observations haven’t changed:
The one important thing to add is that further down the road, the Android tablet will likely STILL not provide any path to adding the QuadRemesher function. The third-party developer behind this one-time in-app purchase, Exoside has not given any indication the underlying ZRemesher code is being ported to Android. It’ll remain exclusively a Nomad for iPad add-on for quite a while, IMO.
I’ll also note that my middle iPad Pro (2020 model) used Apple’s A12z chip and to current day is STILL a very capable Nomad device beyond the needs of any beginner or intermediate. As of this post, the basic entry-level iPad (non-Pro) is $299 (Amazon) and sports their A16 chip. Shouldn’t be difficult to extrapolate how proficient it’ll be.
With the pending Fall 2025 release of the new operating system iPadOS 2025, it’ll push all iPads (including the base model) to do more MacBook-like things (multiple windows, background rendering, etc) That in turn will keep resale demand high in case sculpting doesn’t work out for you and you have no other use for a tablet.
Thank you for your reply, I shall go and have a look at the thread you linked.
I admit that I am slightly anti Apple but also say that I did once have an iPhone (3) and we had a first gen (i think) iPad and they were both capable items.
My son was an Apple fan boy but switched to a Samsung S21 Ultra also a very fine phone.
I personally have given up trying to have the latest phone and for nearly 5 years have had a Poco X4. Cheap and cheerful and is still going strong and cost just over £200.
I always think back to something I read about Apple products that made me smile. Yesterdays technology, in todays boxes at tomorrows prices. lol
In all seriousness though they produce some fine laptops and tablets.
As to the whole “I’m too old” thing…
Academy-Award winning Hollywood old-school monster effects guy, Rick Baker, now 74 picked up ZBrush late in life and has been an avid digital sculptor since:
What astounds me more than anything else is that he did this in ZBRUSH …one of the steepest UI Interface hurdles to overcome. Nomad is a cakewalk by comparison.
