Symmetry Issue with Sel Mask but not Mask

Radial symmetry seems to work ok with mask but not sel mask. Any ideas why?

I assume your mesh is inside out, i.e. the back of the mesh is outside.
This is a lathe object, so your lathe curve was in the wrong direction.
Why is your mesh brown, is brown your backside color ?
If it is the back, then the mask goes inside onto the front side and is then projected radially.
Please test this with e.g. the default Sphere, the Selmask should work there.
! The Selmask also goes through the entire mesh - even if Front Vertex only is active - for an object like a cup this means that the inside is also masked.

Makes me think your gizmo or something is off. I would use the Gizmo tool. Hit the Bake button in the Tool menu. If it doesn’t work, use Pivot Edit. Hit Center. Then Bake. Try again.

Thanks, indeed my lath mesh was inside out!

On a related note, is there anyway to not trim through the entire mesh on a cup shape?
