Had been playing the new Star Wars game and was annoyed by the animation on a character. The tongue stuck straight out from the center of the mouth and the jaws might have moved a few millimeters while he “talked”. So that’s how this guy originated. Kept the eye and mouth placement, the rest I just had fun with.
@stephomi Thanks. When you have a job that has you on call 60-80 plus hours a week, it helps to have a hobby that you can pick up anytime and put down at a moments notice. Nomad is my fun little way to relax…lol.
@JimWatL Thanks. Though I can only imagine how many truly exceptional artists they already have over there. Would be crazy to see what they would pull out of Nomad.
@Josepmy With hundreds of these already, would be fun, but time consuming…lol.
And used this recent one to test out some quick hair with the curve repeater. Been in the back of my mind for a while, just never started it. Figured this model was as good as any to test it out. I’m actually pretty happy with how quickly it can work. I used 3 strands, repeated each about 4 more times for a clump of 15. Used the first repeater to get the bottom layer. Once that part was done, the rest went in pretty rapidly. Just clone the first layer (before validating), and readjust each additional layer (change the number to get varying density). It’s not perfect, and could use some additional work (likely some new clumps instead of doing the whole thing with just one set) but I think I’ll definitely use this method again.
@Josepmy still a few things I want to test out with hair. Wish I had the time for all the things I want to try with Nomad…lol.
And back to some sculpting stuff. Not a lot of time, but still got a few things done. Been playing a couple games, read a few books, etc.
Which is where the first one came about. Played that Ratchet and Clank game. Thought it would be fun to try a cartoony robot. Not much regular sculpting. Primarily just primitives, move and trim.
These are awesome!
Check out leovsilva on discord doing hair with tubes and reproject them on simple planes. New Beta gives this option and first tube profile options. Amazing possibilities!
Forgot to post a lot in here. I’ll get to it eventually. Didn’t realize it had been so long.
But, here’s a quick sketch from tonight. No color, eyes, etc. yet. Harry Potter was on, and I thought I’d create my own house elf before I do all the things that needed to be done…lol. Hoping to kind of make one a bit of between the two extremes of Dobby and Kreacher. Still a lot to do, so we’ll have to see how it ends up.
Actually, here’s a few other things as well. Still a number of ones that were not even close to adding in color, so I never took a quick render of those ones.
I think I’d be afraid of either outcome of doing that. Either no one buys it, or too many do…lol. Trying to consider it logically, the most likely outcome would be a very small amount would sell since it would be such a niche kind of thing. Though if I went the digital publishing route, it wouldn’t really cost anything but time to make. With the added ability to say I published something even if it was never meant to sell more than a couple copies to a few random kids who really like creatures…lol.
@knacki Forgot all about those. Bit of a learning curve from sculpting with a keyboard and mouse to using an Apple Pencil. Also don’t have to use Blender to try and render anymore either. Nomad was already above Sculptris when I first got it. Now, it just keeps growing into areas I didn’t expect to use as often as I do.
Ill say this about your work…not sure what it is about the models you create… but its rare to have some sort of emotional response/reaction looking at a 3D digital creature. But that’s what I get looking at your stuff. Its like looking at a project spread at Jim Henson’s creature shop/Stan Winston Studios (vintage shops). Truly great stuff always.
Definitely! Nomad is already far more ahead I would have ever expected a tablet app could be.
But we should not forget that Nomad is second sculpting app by Stephane.
I remember SculptGL being discussed in Sculptris forum, his first “app” those days.
Quite a lot of experience is concentrated in Nomad.
@Cisc079 Thanks. I’m glad that at least a few of these sketches are good enough to get a response of any kind. I think I’m my own worst critic I guess. I know all the flaws and just don’t really look at them again. Just throwing a bunch of spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks.
Been playing a lot of Starfield, hoping for some good alien creatures. Not really what I’d hoped for yet. Still far too many places to keep searching. So not as many for this update.
Here’s the start to a fantasy chess set (bit of a random personal challenge). Tried keeping them fairly similar. As though they still came from the same world, but branched fairly recently from an evolutionary standpoint. Just having fun with it, so not too worried about making them perfect.
These first 8 would be the pawns. The rest are going to take a while…lol.
