Select Connected by Tapping Doesn't work on M4 iPad

I reported this on the Discord Channel, but will repeat here.

I have an IPad Mini (2nd Gen) with the first generation pencil and the select connected by tapping works fine. I also have an M4 Pro with the Apple Pencil Pro in which the select connected by tapping doesn’t work at all. Nothing happens, Tapping with the finger doesn’t work either.

Both are on Nomad 2.1 and IPadOS 18.4.

Bumping this, as I was hoping some other M4 iPad users could test this out to confirm if it’s a bug or something about my setup. It’s a pain to work around.

2024 M4 13” iPad Pro with 1Terabyte. iPadOS v18.4

Been signed onto Stephane’s beta for years, so it’s currently on v2.2, but I had zero selection issues for all the versions prior.

Brief tap of the finger or my Pencil Pro selects items as configured in the Gestures setting.

Thanks for replying. My issue is selecting topologically connected polys in a single mesh object. I can select different objects with no problem.

For example a chain with multiple links in one mesh. I can select or mask each link with a single tap with an older iPad, but not on the M4.

Chain link made by stretching a Torus primitive, then performing a Curve Repeater while twisting in multiples of 180º. Finishing off with the Join Children option of Validate.

Result, a chain sequence contained as one object or “subtool” in ZBrush speak.

To further discern whether links are topologically “touching”, a TopChain variant is made where the links are indeed intruding into each other.

From here, SelMask is activated and I can tap each discrete link on EITHER chain to mask them individually. I select the Mask tool and again find myself able to select individual links.

Thank you very much for posting that. Must be something in my setup, I’m going to have to dig deeper. I’m glad it isn’t a bug.

I solved the problem by doing a reset to the default preferences. Now it works. Thanks again.

Great to hear it was something simple as a reset.
