The Windows version of QuadRemesher is ridiculously overpriced! It only costs ¥98 on iPad—this single plugin is even more expensive than the software itself. We bought both the iPad and desktop versions, and anyone who buys the desktop version must be a die-hard fan of this tool. With so much competition in the desktop market right now, this price is completely unreasonable.
Hard disagree. I think the price is amazing for what we get. Even with the added cost of QuadRemesh.
Go price up the alternatives.
So why is QuadRemesher so much cheaper on iPad, while the desktop version is even more expensive than Nomad itself? It feels kind of putting the cart before the horse.
It’s explained in a few places; the nomad developer did a deal with with the exoside developer for ipad, as it didn’t really compete with any existing market for exoside at the time.
Desktop nomad definitely DOES compete with existing desktop quadremesher plugins, so requires a matching price.
That said, if you own it on one platform (eg nomad ipad), you’re eligible for the ‘all platforms’ desktop upgrade, which is a pretty good deal. The indie version is even cheaper.
Let me confirm something. If I purchase the QuadRemesher plugin for the iPad version of NomadSculpt, am I correct in understanding that I can upgrade the license to the PC version by paying the difference?
I thought I needed to purchase the iPad and PC versions separately.
Ah my mistake, if you own any of the desktop licences, you can upgrade to the full cross software desktop licence, including nomad.
Basically quad remesher on iPad is treated as hobby level, has hobby pricing, while on desktop it’s considered pro level, has pro pricing. Not up to nomad, the price is set by exoside, take it up with them if you don’t like it.
Thank you for your reply. I understand.
That’s really quite a good deal.
Hello,
I own Nomad Sculpt on both my iPad and my PC. Back then, I purchased QuadRemesher for the iPad.
I’d like to use it on my PC now as well, but I find the price to be very high, and the licensing restrictions aren’t entirely clear to me…they make no sense at all ^^
In theory, I should be able to work on commercial projects on the iPad, but that wouldn’t be possible on the desktop with the Indie package (only with pro).
But what if I move the 3D model back and forth between the iPad and the desktop? Who should know, where and how i used Quad Remesher…and anfterwards sell my models. It wouldn’t even be possible to me to know that. I use QuadRemesher all the time.
Wouldn’t the two different purchases conflict with each other in terms of licensing? Theoretically, one could always claim that the model was completed on the iPad even though it was actually done on the PC….so what should we do and which licence is the right one?
To me, that just doesn’t make sense right now…i would instantly buy the indie version and don’t give a f’#ck ![]()
Well said. I hope the price of QuadRemesher can be unified with the iPad version.
Unifying the prices is not a bad thing for Nomad; on the contrary, it’s a good thing that can greatly enhance Nomad’s core competitiveness.
As mestela mentioned:
It’s based on trust, if you intend to sell models, then you should not use the desktop indie QR.
Are you kidding me? How can it be expensive?
Have you compared the price of other competing software on the PC platform? Excuse me, but before giving an opinion like that, you should consider that.
As the creator said, it’s a matter of trust regarding the license, just like with the sale of 3D models. Nobody knows what the end use will be for someone else’s work.
I’d love if they were more clear about the matter and, if onyle the message with this info appeared on ipad too after purchase, (it didn’t for me).
I am not enjoying having to juggle with money in this economy, honestly.
I’m glad I only have tiny private commissioners from time to time or I’d retopo in Blender and forget about the ipad ![]()
Whatever people create, shouldn’t be a matter of interest to any plugin or software owner.
Since it’s a matter of trust, it should go both ways. Nobody knows what anyones 3D end result is and no one should care.
Also, it is expensive for →some people←. Putting a license limit and not allowing professional work just because you bought a lower price version? why not unify and sell only one option? So people don’t feel cheated?
I hope there are as many amazing retopo free plugins, an others, in the future as there are for software like Blender. People might flee, or count the pluggins they can buy with a single hand.
When I bought it on ipad, I didn’t even get a message with usage and licensing information. Now I am regretting I even bought it. The fact that, also, you need to purchase everything again for PC? Feels dirty.
But this is also my humble opinion. Be mindful of others and respect their opinions, (as long as they are not an attack, of course).
They could have built a system of donations to maintain the software and let more people access it, but this didn’t happen, so I understand both sides.
(for me, the base Nomad and the plugin costed exactly the same which…didn’t feel fair to begin with.)
I understand that Exoides also developed Zremesh for ZBrush, and if I compare the cost of a ZBrush license, I think I have a clear idea of what I get for their Nomad version, since I use it constantly. I have the Blender version of Quadremesh, and I don’t think I’d dare compare it to any built-in Blender solution. If there are other similar, free software developments in the future, I would also appreciate it. Furthermore, Quadremesh is available for multiple PC software programs and has the same cost across its different options. Exoides also offers an indie and pro version for use with all the software on the list for an additional fee. Regarding the indie/pro issue, as others have already mentioned, it appeals to trust. If you’re Sideshow, anyone would expect you to pay for the pro version, but if you’re an independent designer, you could still produce using an indie license, similar to the donation system in Blender or other software, as you pointed out. The difference is that one is a foundation and this is a private entity, and comparing it to PC software offerings, who can compete with that price? It’s not at all excessive.
Many companies indeed do that and simply skip the indie version, you only have the one pro (more expensive) version.
Also if you have no idea what you are doing with your 3d models, then use the indie. And the very moment you do something commercial, buy the pro version.
A message that would say what? QR usage on iPad is the same as Nomad on iPad.
What part of “Quad Remesher is not developed by Hexanomad but by Exoside” don’t you guys understand. I don’t control anything on desktop related to QR and don’t owe you anything.
Cross platforms apps are all subscription based. You don’t buy a game on iPad and then whine you cannot access it on windows..
QR is 5$ less expensive than Nomad on iPad, QR price on iPad will always be slightly less expensive than Nomad regular version (currently QR is 15$ and Nomad is 20$).
Blender is free and people buy paid plugin all the time (and more expensive than Nomad).
Yes, I’m mildly annoyed by these conversations.
You guys don’t even make the effort to understand what’s going on and still think I own the Quad Remesher or have any control on their licensing.
Go complain and convince Exoside.
You know what? fair. And thanks for giving a kind answer. I’m tired of people jumping with knives and not trying to understand someone else’s position.
What I meant: the message was about showing the purchaser the type of license in a clearer way, with what you can and can’t (or shouldn’t) sell when using QR as non Pro purchase. It is the information I didn’t see available when I bought everything.
When I buy fonts, the first thing I see is the license terms, what you can and can’t do with them for commercial or free use. SO yeah, I’m a bit annoyed at this because I don’t remember a pop up window with it.
I understand it’s two different OS and thus you’ll need a new copy. I also understand you must be tired of this but please…next time try to wait and cool off a bit before answering. I bet you don’t care, but right now? If this is the type of answer I’m getting? I pass.
What I recommend, if you allow me, is automatically have a Q&A link to pass on for people to read themes like this and avoid answering by hand.
On the other hand, yes, I’ll try to contact with Exoside and see if they can make the info clearer about this. The end. No drama, really. Just sucks that I obviously don’t have the money for it and could have avoid a “hobby” version, going straight for pro after saving a lil bit.
