Took the kids to the pumpkin farm today…
And for whatever reason, decided to launch an app that’s been on my phone forever but never got around to giving it an honest shot. It’s RealityScan on iOS. After signing up with their EpicGames overlords, the scanning was reasonably straightforward. As with all photogrammetry-type programs, capture stills from all around and push it up to their cloud for processing. What comes back down to the phone seems pretty remarkable given I only snapped 85 images; under harsh sunlight no less.
“Export 3D Model” button gives a ZIP file that contains the mesh, a materials file, a diffuse texture file, and a normals texture file. In one go, I imported all four files into Nomad…
Getting to this point with so little friction is pure awesomeness.
Since the saved Nomad file is larger than the forum’s allowed 20mb limit, I’ll publicly toss it onto SketchFab
Enjoy!
