Contrast-slider, please
I’ve posted about this before. But when 3D printing I’m realising more and more how crucial it is for replicating the integrity of the details of a 3D model since resin printers softens all small details.
As an example - I’ve made this 3D portrait where I added clay texture on top of the surface. The problem when 3D printing this is that all these clay-smudges get much softer and just looks like an uneven surface. Pore detail in a 3D scan suffers even worse when 3D printing them.
If I use the offset in my texture layer to increase the effect it just deepens the effect and changes the forms of the model. But with the Contrast slider in Zbrush it sharpens all the detail without deepening it much and it shows up in the print much more true to the orginal 3D model.
In the picture below I have 3 images - the far left is my 3D model made in Nomad and how I want it to look. The middle picture is enhanced to 37 with the Zbrush contrast slider and in the picture to the right the slider is up to 50. I would say that 37-40 seems pretty close to what I need for my Mega 8K printer in order to get the same feeling in my print as in the left image.
I’m not sure how complicated this is, but it sure would be helpful for anyone wanting to replicate a 3D model, or a 3D scan, with a 3D printer and get more correct results.
