Filesize is too large

Hello,

I can’t seem to find a solution to my problem. I’m a beginner and I’m currently sculpting a model with a lot of detail. I’ve reached the point where I need to start decimating some parts to reduce the file size while keeping an acceptable level of detail.

The problem is that every time I decimate something, the file size actually increases (it’s currently 11.1 GB), and I can’t understand why reducing the number of polygons is making the file larger.

If anyone has an explanation or knows what might be causing this, I’d really appreciate your help.

Here are the scene stats :

Thanks in advance !

Are you on desktop?
Maybe look at history options to see if the history is saved as well.

Yes, I’m on desktop. The history is being saved, but as I understand it, it isn’t included in the overall file size calculation, and the combined values shown are nowhere near the 11 GB file size.

it’s currently 11.1 GB

Where are you looking at? please be precise.
The storage limit limit is only taken into account when you resave the project.

I’m talking about the overall file size here.

This part shows both the nom file and the separate history.

Other than that go in your Nomad folder (nomad menu top left → then explore → then data/projcets/xerath 2/
and see where all the GB are.

The .nom file is under 5 GB, and the history is under 2 GB.

hmm autosave.nom 4.7GB, ah you used autosave…
Definitely an issue there.

I’ll look into it.

Thanks, should I open an issue ?

No it’s fine, I set the topic as bug.

There are other issues with the history disk that I need to look at (projects super slow at loading, etc).

Thanks a lot !

Normally should be fixed on next update (2.9.28).
